Academy Music Group (AMG) and Arts Council England (ACE) in association with BBC Radio 2 present 'On Song'. This is the first in a series of landmark festivals 2006-2008 to celebrate the 'art of song writing' across the UK. This year's 'On Song' takes place 19th September - 17th October at the Shepherds Bush Empire, Carling Academy Islington and Bar Academy Islington. The 'On Song' Festivals will take place in London, Birmingham, Newcastle and Liverpool and feature the finest and most iconic song writers, alongside local, emerging talent. The series will include a specialist Rhythm and Blues On Song Festival in London, 2007. 'On Song' celebrates the art and process of writing, crafting and giving life to songs. This can be achieved through the interpretation, recording, performance and showcasing of a variety of musical genres such as Rock, Rhythm and Blues, Indie, Asian Fusion, World, Urban as well as contemporary styles. The festivals will be tailored to suit each region; reflecting local musical heritage. Running in unison will be an integrated Education and Emerging Talent Programme - developed with songwriters, major music industry organisations, Higher Education Institutions, professional development agencies and local arts and community organisations. |
