Academy Music Group and Arts Council England are pleased to present the 'On Song' festival series in Liverpool this September. Following successful events in both London (2006) and Birmingham (2007), Liverpool plays host to 'On Song' in 2008 as it continues to celebrate the title of European Capital of Culture.

'On Song' takes place at Carling Academy Liverpool, Hotham Street, showcasing the finest songwriters and artists, alongside local emerging talent. Featured events will celebrate the process of writing, crafting, and giving life to songs and celebrate all genres from rock and folk to electro and indie. Combining established musicians and up and coming artists, 'On Song' reflects the range of music that exists in Liverpool and the city's rich, musical heritage.

Each festival has an integrated education and outreach programme – including higher education institutions, national music industry bodies and local arts organisations. 'On Song' Liverpool 2008 will include workshops and showcases to discuss current songwriting and broader industry issues. These discussions are an integral part in the development of the 'On Song' infrastructure and encourage communications between the commercial music industry and public sectors.

'On Song' launched in the Capital in September 2006 with outstanding performances from Plan B, Newton Faulkner and Ryan Adams & The Cardinals. Last year, Birmingham complemented this with an exclusive show with local heroes The Twang, curated by Janice Long and broadcast on BBC Radio 2.

Academy Music Group "We're really pleased to be hosting the third On Song Festival in Liverpool this September as the city has entered a new chapter becoming European Capital of Culture in 2008. After two incredible events in London and Birmingham, we're excited to be working once again with the Arts Council and creating new partnerships with local organisations to celebrate music and songwriting at Carling Academy Liverpool."
Daryl Robinson, Academy Music Group.

Arts Council of England "The 'On Song' festival highlights the opportunities that can emerge through public sector and commercial partners working together to support talent and creativity. I hope that this, the last in this series of these festivals, will pave the way for longer term relationships between Academy Music Group, Arts Council and our other key partners, so that we can continue to help support and develop world class music making in this country. I am particularly looking forward to seeing and hearing the interactions between emerging and established artists, that has become the hallmark of this festival."
Eddie Thomas, Music Officer, Arts Council England North West.
